F*** My Life: is it really that bad?
Recently I was introduced to the website fmylife.com by a few of my peers. The website is a forum where people can go and post a blurb of an event that completely ruined their day... all of them ending with the acronym FML. Readers can then vote on the comment if A) your life is "really F***ed up" or B) you deserved it.
The posts have come in seven different categories ranging from love, work, sex, miscellaneous, etc. For example today FML #115170: "Today, I submitted a vacation request to my manager and it was approved. I came back from lunch and was informed that I have been let go. FML."
The users decided that this person's life is indeed fucked.
Apparently the website was created by two french guys (no pun intended) and its had such success in Europe that they had to expand.
As I was reading through them and seeing how amused my friends were I started to wonder how something like this becomes so popular. Some of the posts are obscene they involve embarrassing sexual encounters and sad breakups... most of them even make me feel awkward just reading them. So why would anyone want to post these moments? to entertain others... and not only that why would anyone want these things to be judged. Are we really that narcissistic that we need reassurance that our own lives aren't that bad.
The sudden popularity of constantly updating people of whats going on in our lives i.e. facebook status or the recent internet phenomenon twitter! (my username is alyss15) I really don't understand. So if someone can please explain the appeal I would really appreciate it. Send me a Tweet i guess.
because right now I just think it's weird. weird. weird.
Today when I woke up I was really craving some toast and scrambled eggs only to find that I have to go to the market and all I have in my fridge was some tortillas and condiments. all I got for breakfast was some coffee. FML.
...weird.
