The Theresita
Earlier this year it occurred to me that I have one very special dog. I have had the privilege of having lots of special dogs throughout my years, but at this point in time I'm not exactly sure what I'd do without THIS very special girl.
Her name is Theresa. And yes, I know this isn't the typical "dog name." It's not something you hear everyday. It is in fact a silly result of some very [logical] thinking from my mother, who at the time was terrified of the way my pack of pit bull puppies would turn out to be. And in one of my mother's glorious moments of being a good catholic patron it was declared, "we should call her Theresa, after Mother Theresa. So maybe when she grows up she will have saintly qualities and not be like a pit bull."
...And so it was. Our one little female black puppy out of a bunch of boys that looked nothing like her was named after the wonderfully compassionate Saint Teresa. The one little black pit bull puppy (that we were never supposed to keep) stayed in our home and we all fell in love. My family has come a long way from our archaic "scary pit bull" type dog thinking. We now advocate strongly for all breeds of dogs and it's because of all of the dogs we have met and loved... Theresa being one of them.
I know I write about a lot of other dogs and my experiences with them. I know I focus on a lot of other issues in this silly little blog of mine. But today I'd just like to say that Theresa is one of the best dogs around. She may not be perfect and she may be a little more stubborn than I'd prefer. I sometimes complain about her being a little lazy and also a little spoiled. I also joke about her diva ways in how she chooses when/if she's going to pay attention to you.. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. Because right now she is helping Joy, she is helping me, and she is teaching us both to just R-E-L-A-X.

She's perfect.
